Questions We Live With As Youth: The Young Adults Group of The Christian Community in Pennsylvania
A small group of individuals have been getting together monthly to examine their questions and the relevancy of the times. We've asked the group to share how their work is going and what is emerging.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” ~ Margaret Mead
Twice a month a small group of young adults comes together to ask, to answer, and to ponder questions that challenge us in our daily lives. In search of our calling, both individually and as a group, we traverse the seas of uncertainty and doubt, sharing in wonderful moments of comfortable consensus.
Though the group often changes, (expanding and contracting in number), a core group has established itself. That which I find most exciting is the diversity within the group, both culturally and philosophically. Both the Christian Community and three Camphill Communities are represented. Often three or more Countries are represented amongst us!
We have lived with such questions as:
- To what extent do we have free will? If they contradict, what would be more important- what I want or what the World asks of me?
- Is life without judgments possible?
- What is the task of the Human Being on the Earth?
- How do I make decisions in life?
As I write this I have just left the second meeting of the New Year, where we turned to the question of: How can we support positive change in the outer World, as a group collective? Appropriately, (I think), the discussion lead us inward to the development of our inner lives. The fostering of pure, Spiritualized thoughts, as nourishment for the Etheric realm. As a dear friend said, “imagine a candle being lit in a very large, dark room. Though the whole room is not immediately flooded with light everything changes.”
“Thousands of candles can be lit from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened ~ Happiness never decreases by being shared” ~ The Buddha
